In 1987, Omega has been chosen by the vote in the European Car of the Year. This model was also used as a police car in the British police, as well as a hearse in other countries. In 1990, Omega has undergone a facelift, amended, inter alia, radiator grille, bumpers and taillights.

Opel working on the introduction of the 5.7 engine V8 with 315hp used inter alia in the Chevrolet Corvette, the work was well advanced.
