Toyota Qualis
The models Kijang (Indonesia), Condor (South Africa), Qualis (India), Revo (Philippines), Tamaraw (Philippines), our (Malaysia), Venture (South Africa), Z-Ace (Taiwan and Vietnam), Zace (Taiwan) and Zaice (Vietnam) are models of Japanese brand Toyota, which go back to the products developed by Toyota Kijang Toyota Indonesia and became a worldwide success. Especially in Southeast Asia and South Africa, as well as some Caribbean islands, these models were in great demand. Uncounted CKD contracts had to be awarded to independent workshops, to meet growing demand. 2003/2004 of the Kijang was finally abandoned in some markets and replaced by some other models.
The Kijang was developed in the 1970s by Toyota Indonesia based on the popular Toyota Land Cruisers. It should be built in a more favorable and better for the Indonesian market suitable SUV. Despite initial skepticism, the Land Cruiser was a well-proven model began the initial planning in secret in 1973. With a two-year period of development, the models were finally fair for the first time on the Jakarta show of World Public. Series production was until then by Toyota not taken into consideration, since you looked at the Land Cruiser to be unbeatable. The great appeal as well as the input of thousands of written inquiries changed that opinion quickly and you could finally begin in 1977 with the serial production of the Toyota Kijang in Indonesia. A year later came the delivery of CKD kits at a Philippine company. There they built the model as Toyota Tamaraw.
There were four different body styles to choose from and a variety of engines. So there was the Kijang as minibus, Pikap with one or on request with 2 cabins. Also got a van to choose from. In the Philippine Tamaraws, there were also too long versions of the pickup truck as well as a version with a framework plan.
As motorization there was the 1.2-liter petrol engine with 3K 57 kW (77hp). In the Philippine model, the model selection was far greater. Here further were also the 4K engine of Toyota with 65 kW (89hp) to choose from. From other engine manufacturers, there was the 1.3-liter Pinoy engine (Ford Motor Company) and the 1.6-liter engines Fiera I, II and Fiera Fiera III (also from Ford). From Chrysler-Mitsubishi had the 1.4-liter Neptune engine. This came a little later also the Kijang for use
1980, the Kijang was finally revised and established the second generation. In the Philippines, the Tamaraw was further built up in 1982 in the original form and also replaced by the second generation.
The only competitor of the Tamaraw was the jeepney. A total of 26,806 units of the Kijang were produced.
With the introduction of the second generation was given the Kijang and the Tamaraw a design that gave the models a wuchtigeres occurrence. However, the form still rejected at very attached to his predecessor. The headlights were optional Oval, Round or Square.
As an engine for the Kijang there was only the 1.4-liter 4K engine. In 1985 this was replaced by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine.
When Tamaraw hand, was a 2.2-liter diesel engine from Delta Motors standard. Mazda, there was a 2.5-liter diesel engine as a second engine choice. Other engines in the selection of the Tamaraw were the Fiera IV of Ford and Isuzu C-190th
Dragon Motor Vehicles, a local Filipino car maker, has bought after the success of the Tamaraw a license. Shortly thereafter, unique models the company produced under the brand name Dragon. Also Nissan and Carter Motors have recognized the popularity of the model and also bought the rights to the design. To further the competing models Nissan Bida, which was distributed by Universal Motors emerged; and the Carter Masa.
These were now in direct competition, so a newer and more modern successor had to be created. 1986, although a new version was put on the market, but in the Philippines, the new generation was not until 1991 collection.
The built in Taiwan and Vietnam Z-Ace models were identical to the Indonesian Kijang.
The third generation of 1986 was substantially different to its predecessors. So now the body style was contemporary back and the car could be ordered with a lot more extras. The model was also interesting for private households. The previous generations had been sold almost exclusively to dealers and retailers.
In this way, the model has now also known in Africa and in the Caribbean. There, the demand was also very high, so that this generation has now also built in South Africa as a Toyota Venture. These eventually were exported to other African countries as well as in the Caribbean.
In the Kijang model line, the model differed primarily already in length. So there was a KF-40 series with a short wheelbase and the KF-50 series with a long wheelbase. The simplest model variant was the standard Kijang. The best version was the Super Kijang. The pickup version of the new generation was added at independent garages in order and based on the Toyota Hilux. The design was nevertheless made uniform so as not from the minibus version departing.
1992 smaller stylistic changes to the model are finally made. Thus, the units of the Toyota plant were reported with the lettering Toyota Original Body. Even the interior was slightly redesigned, but the standard was still the entry-level model. For traders this was particularly popular. One floor higher ranked of the Deluxe. The top model presented the Grand Extra dar. As engine served the Kijang the 1.8-liter 7K-C engine.
When Tamaraw FX, however, there were several variants of petrol and diesel engines. These were also offered at the Malay Our well as the Zaice. The venture was initially how the Zace with the Kijang identical. With the introduction of the Qualis in the Indian market further engines were developed. This contributed 61 kW (83hp) and 75 kW (102hp). The finally broke all previous engines offered in this venture as well as the Zaice and Zace ab.Der Qualis was indeed technically the same, but the front end was its own and is a previous version to the fourth generation.
The Indonesian facelift version was finally offered in 1993 as a fourth-generation Tamaraw FX. The Vietnamese Zaice was adapted to the 1996 model accordingly. The free workshops also frequently Body parts of the Mazda MPV were used for the body of the Toyota’s Prayer.
By the fourth generation, and the second generation Tamaraw FX, the design was modernized again. In some markets, however, this was not offered. There, the third generation remained on offer.
In the coding of the pickup version was now called Series 60. The minivan, also popularly known as Kijang Capsule was the Series 70 and in the long version of the Series 80 for driving the Kijang attended either a 1.8-liter petrol engine or a 2.4-liter diesel engine.

In 2000, the Kijang got a small lift at the front and rear. Similarly, a 2.0-liter engine was now for the LGX and Krista model versions in addition to the selection. Furthermore, it was also slightly redesigned the interior of these two model versions. Another slight revision took place in 2003. Thus, this model versions are now also in A (1997-2000), B (2000-2003) and C (2003-2005) distinguished. When the Kijang series with the time now more to a car had developed, Toyota and Toyota India Indonesia decided to develop a suitable successor. This was established in 2005 and bears the names depending on the market Toyota Innova (India), Toyota Kijang Innova (in Indonesia) and Toyota Revo (2nd generation; Philippines).
