Subaru Impreza (second generation)
Subaru Impreza – a compact class car brand Subaru produced since 1993 as a successor to the Subaru Leone – the first mass-produced car with four-wheel drive. Currently produced is the fourth generation model. All motors mounted in the Impreza is a boxer engines.
Subaru Impreza and was presented in 1993. Subaru is the first generation of events as a type of GCA (four-door sedan) or GCB (five-door station wagon). On the markets of Japan and the U.S. also delivered a two-door sedan, designated as type GCF.
Initially the car was available with naturally aspirated engines (GL version) with capacities of 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 liters. Traditionally, the Subaru brand, all these engines were constructed in push-pull (boxer). In most models for the drive is transmitted through both axes of the central differential provided with a viscous coupling. Standard, well equipped (including brakes enhanced with four-channel czteroczujnikowy and ABS, electric windows and mirrors, station wagon version of reduktororem) auto designed for C-segment had left an indelible impression (called to impress), hence, inter alia, explained by the model name. Desired brought notoriety but the Event only version with a turbocharged engine, which was created to replace the World Rally Championship aging Legacy model.
On the European market the first Subaru Impreza with a turbocharged engine with a displacement of 2 liters appeared in 1994 under the name Subaru Impreza GT. It was adapted to European conditions and principles of insurance Japanese version of the Subaru Impreza WRX. At the turn of 1994-1997 in the European version, customers have access to a two-liter engine with 208hp. In addition to power, less than in the Japanese Impreza WRX Impreza Turbo was harder than Japanese "counterpart suspension (shock absorbers changed and used thicker stabilizers).
Body is equipped with an integrated front bumper spoiler deep, with very large integral headlights, rear aileron of various sizes, a characteristic configuration Subaru engine air intake charge air cooler on the bonnet, extra (factory sealed) holes ventilating the engine compartment and side moldings.
In 1997, the company introduced an engine of 211hp, which allowed to reach 100km/h in 6 seconds. This model also comes in a modified compared to its predecessor body. Tightened slightly changing the front lines, among others, bonnet, headlamps, radiator grille. Inside the added new bucket seats and other upholstery. In 1998, he again modified appearance. Added on white gauges and digital odometer, steering wheel MOMO brand, assembled 16 inch aluminum wheels. In 1999, increased engine power to 218hp and a turbo version was added to the new, four-piston brake calipers cooperating with the enlarged diameter discs. As an optional extra available were new front and rear spoilers, manufactured by Prodrive. There are also mirrors in body color, while the fog and main were hidden behind the lenses of smooth glass, suitable car a bit more modern look. There are also copies of the pre-deprived air conditioning system, ABS and airbags, to help independent teams to build a rally car.
While the first generation Impreza was offered on the European market, there are several special versions of this car. The first of these was the model of McRae Special Edition, produced in 1995 to celebrate the achievements of Colin McRae during the rally RAC. Another model was the event Catalunya (chance was to get the team Subaru World Champion Producers). In 1998, to celebrate the third consecutive World Champion title Prodcuentów, Subaru released model Impreza Terzo (on "third"). Another special model was RB5 ("Richard Burns 5" – with the number of the driver racing World Championship riding in the colors of the Subaru). Interestingly, all these models do not differ in anything except ornaments from widely available – only version can be ordered RB5 WR package, raising power output to 240hp. Only Impreza P1, built in 1999, on the basis of a two-door sedan by Prodrive on request of the importer – Subaru (UK) Limited, had an engine of 280hp and a number of improvements (adapted for fast driving on winding and bumpy roads suspension, enhanced brakes), which gave her a taste of the special edition.
In addition to European counterparts version, Subaru offered in Japan Events available in Europe and the USA. The differences manifest themselves primarily in cars with turbocharged engines. In contrast to the EU, they reached power from 250 to 280hp. Also just reserved for the Japanese market STI versions (Subaru Tecnica International), which were subjected to factory tuned. STI models, produced by six generations, show a modified elements of the engine accessories, suspension and brakes usportowionym. Cars marked as STI Type-R were based on a two-door bodywork Events, and thanks to the low weight, the central mechanism differentially adjustable short-circuit power of axle and engine with high torque showed up to measure performance supercars (acceleration to 100km/h in less than 5 seconds ). An interesting model of events that could speed up work on the Forester SUV The event was the Gravel Express. It was uterenowiona increased, turbocharged Impreza wagon, with additional security tubular front and back of the car, and a wide protective strips on the doors.
Among the cars for the Japanese market appeared many special models, produced in small series. They were said STI Type-R, designed exclusively to build on its base model WRX rally cars RA, devoid of sound-deadening materials and manufactured with a thinner sheet metal with exposed places rollcage mounting, the WRX STI RA-which is his version of the most powerful engine available as standard, and cult model STi 22B. The latter, produced in 401 copies, marked by an engine capacity of 2.2-liter 280hp, extended two-door bodywork and suspension sportsmen produced by the German company Bilstein. 22B STi is considered the crowning achievement in the development of GC platform.
In the United States, the most popular were the cheapest versions of the type GC-engine 1.6l. GC type was not available in the U.S. with turbocharged engines, due to the inability to meet the California standards for these engines emissions in the exhaust. It is common practice buyers was the resignation of 4-wheel drive for the cheaper version of the front-wheel drive. Relatively popular was also a two-door version. With the success in the World Rally Championship, Subaru been introducing to the U.S. market more powerful engine versions, including a naturally aspirated, 160-hp engine with a capacity of 2.2 liters, today used in various vehicles of the brand. Japanese equivalent of "Gravel Express" was produced in small quantities for the American market Impreza Outback – but also deprived of this model turbo engine. Good two-door sedan sales marked Impreza RS, bears an uncanny resemblance to the Japanese, the sports version of the Type-R (but without the turbo) was the reason why Subaru decided to enter the U.S. market turbo engines after fitting them with additional catalysts. This occurred with the advent of a new generation of body events.
In 2000 the company introduced a new style of their cars. Interior and body are designed from the ground up, and the model is referred to henceforth as GDA (sedan) or GDB (combo). Also the name of the unified version of the turbocharged, who in the world is called the Impreza WRX. For the first time in the old continent appeared officially cult for even more variety of sporting performance: Subaru Impreza WRX STi (265 HP), the Prime Minister occurred in September 2001. The first version of the GD body is called (because of the characteristic round headlights) "bug-eye" (called "robakooki"). A characteristic feature of the platform is considerable variation GD structural model of the sedan and station wagon. In contrast to the GC platform in which cars wagon and sedan design differed only from the third line of the roof pillar, GD combo is narrower and different from the sedan GD all the plates body outside the front… mask….
Initially, the Impreza WRX was available only with an engine power of 218HP, transferred directly from the previous model. It was only in 2003, increased engine output to 225hp WRX, through the exchange of control electronics. At the same time abandoned the very controversial circular headlamps and replaced with a more standard lamps with a characteristic tear – hence this model is called the "blob eye" (called "blob": "drop").
In the model year 2006 once again modified the front. The new headlamps (reminiscent of the Legacy model) equipped with a lens beam (Xenon RC version 2.0 and above), changed the bonnet, front bumper and grille – this version of the body is called the "hawkeye" (called "hawk eye"). The amendments also extended the rear of the car – modified shape rear lights and bumper. The biggest change hidden inside revised bodywork is the introduction of version 2.0 of RA and RC new, naturally aspirated two-liter unit with variable valve timing with 160hp, and the WRX and WRX STI turbo engines with a capacity of 2.5 liters, previously known only from the U.S. market.
2007 model year in addition to the minimum of the revised rear lights and the rear differential Torsen STI version does not bring any significant changes. Introduced an engine capacity of 1.5 liters and 105hp, making it the weakest, but at the same time the most economical drive unit available in this model.
On the basis of GD platform there were many special versions in Europe. The first and most famous of these is the model SE (Solberg Edition), a derivation WRX STI with more powerful engine (305hp) and slight changes stylizacyjnymi. The last version of GD body appeared limited edition model RB320 – only available in black, reinforced to 320HP car in memory of the late Richard Burns. An interesting fact is that as a result of cooperation companies racing driver Leszek Kuzaj of Polish importer of Subaru, also in Poland, established a special version, called SPRT (Subaru Poland Rally Team). 25 cars with distinctive markings, resembling the colors of rally cars Subaru team, characterized by competitive suspension, engine power boosted to around 310HP and a sign with an individual number, located inside the car.
As with its predecessor, the platform GD went through special models available only on the Japanese market. In the vast majority are cars designed for the feat, devoid of frills (Spec-C Type RA), which are used art technology – a titanium-composite turbochargers, sophisticated suspension and brake modifications and changes in the body (elimination of unused seats in sport, lightweight materials). An interesting exception is the Impreza WRX STI A-line – a model in which the minimum eliminated aggressive spoilers and other signs of sporting character of the car. Its counterpart on the British market was the Impreza Spec-D ("specification discreet"). This approach was dictated by the amount of customers who were interested in buying a car with sports performance, but decided to buy Events due to the depreciation of its public image and reluctance to identify with the users whose profile gradually changed toward uncritical supporters tuning, also external.
Introduction turbocharged was awaited events in the United States with great interest, and the car was accepted the applause of the press and users. U.S. market as the first to receive STI model with an engine capacity of 2.5 liters and 300hp. While cars from the U.S. market only slightly different from their European counterparts, however, a fundamental difference with the rest of the world was the assembly version of the WRX until 2003 dwutĹ, front and jednotĹ wrenches, combination wrenches hamulcÄ‚Å‚w come back… smokers GC platform in 1998.

Subaru Impreza IV – was presented during the fair in New York April 20, 2011. In the autumn of the same year, at the Frankfurt Motor shown uterenowionÄ… version of the vehicle called the Impreza XV. This car was launched as a new, stand-alone model belonging to the crossover segment, under the name Subaru XV. In Poland, the car appeared in mid-2012. A year later, presented the Subaru XV hybrid. This is the first model Subaru of this type of drive.
In November 2013 saw the release of the WRX. Subaru decided to sell the vehicle as a separate model, because of the name disappeared event. Subaru WRX has, however, built on the basis of Events sedan. The differences relate to the drive and stylistic details: others are front and rear lights, bumpers, tailgate, but identical base plate and lateral line.
Eternal rival STI model is manufactured by Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Both companies every year presents new versions of its flagship products, thereby driving competition and forcing constant technological progress.
