The Hyundai Stellar (Hangul: 현대 스텔ë¼) was a midsize car, the Hyundai Motor Company produced. The Stellar was released in July 1983 as a successor to the Ford Cortina, the Hyundai had previously assembled and marketed for Ford in South Korea. The Stellar was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, but the platform of the Ford Cortina was used.
Engine and transmission were manufactured under License from Mitsubishi. Four-cylinder in-line engine (4G33) and 1.6 liter – four – cylinder inline engine (4G32) – By 1986 the 1.4 liter was the same as the Hyundai Pony, together with the manual 5-speed transmission KM119 or 3-speed Borg Warner automatic 03-55L used – and a 2.0 liter -. motor in 1987, the trim levels were "L" (basic equipment), "GL/CL ‘and’ GSL/CXL". There was also this year to request an automatic transmission with overdrive. The Stellar was not introduced in the U.S. (and even after Germany, translator’s note) because he could not meet the local emission standards, but in Canada and other countries.
In the fall of 1988, the Stellar in Canada was replaced by the Hyundai Sonata. In early 1990, production was stopped.
