• Dodge Aspen

The Dodge Aspen was a by the U.S. automobile manufacturer Dodge produced from 1976 to 1980 model of the middle class with rear-wheel drive.

In the spring of 1976, the Aspen appeared as a successor to the Dodge Dart. The Aspen, named after the ski resort in the U.S. state of Colorado, based on the F-platform of the Chrysler Group and was the sister model desPlymouth Volare; for a closer relationship also included the above settled in the model hierarchy, the M platform belonging sent models Chrysler LeBaron, Chrysler Fifth Avenue. Dodge Diplomat and Plymouth Gran Fury.

The Aspen was replaced in model year 1981 through the smaller, front-drive Dodge Aries, which was equipped with four-cylinder engines.

In the 1976 model year Dodge launched the Aspen as a four-door sedan, five-door estate and two-door coupe, the latter on a 10 shortened to 275.5 cm wheelbase. Available trim levels were base, Custom and Special Edition. Was driven from the Aspen optional 3.7 liter Slant-Six-line six-cylinder or V8 engines with 5.2 and 5.9 liters of displacement; of transmissions were three-or four-speed gearbox and Chrysler TorqueFlite three-speed automatic to choose from. Based on the Aspen coupe in the basic version, the sporty version of Aspen was R/T offered with matte black grille and trim, trim, sport rims and modified rear lights; this model was available only with the V8 engine and was sold in 17,000 copies.

1977 received the combination as the base engine, a twin carburettor version of the six-cylinder engine with 112hp. In addition to the coupe R/T Coupe R/T Super Pak, fender flares and lamellar plastic covers above the rear side windows offered with front and rear spoilers. From the R/T were 4465, sold by R/T Super Pak 2284 copies.

The initially good reputation of Aspen suffered in the years 1976/77 numerous recalls due to the high susceptibility to rust damage. Quality assurance measures at Chrysler but ensured that these weaknesses are no longer occurring in later models.

For model year 1978, the Aspen underwent a first facelift with a smaller grille and placed between grille and headlights parking lights and revised taillights. The diversity of models among the coupe has been extended; next R/T and R/T Super Pak, there were from the beginning of 1978, the Super Coupe with dark brown custom paint, matt black bonnet, sports suspension and 5.9-liter V8. The numbers remained low: approximately 1500 R/T, 500 Super Pak and the 600 Super Coupes were sold.

1979 accounted for the Super Coupe, it was a sporty-equipped variant of the combined model into the program, the Aspen Sport Wagon. A total of 75 coupes were still R/T comes as Aspen.

In 1980, the Aspen astonishingly, is an extensive facelift, although the series was canceled in the summer of 1981 from the program. The new front had square headlights and a wider grille. The model range now consisted of the base model, which was combined with various equipment packages, and Aspen Special. From Coupe R/T 285 units were built. The motor powers were reduced, the six-cylinder 67 kW (91 PS), the 5.2-liter V8 to 90 kW (122hp), accounted for the 5.9-liter.

From the Dodge Aspen total of 810,000 units were built.

The Dodge Aspen was the technical basis for the Monteverdi Sierra offered from 1977 to 1982. The Swiss automobile manufacturer Monteverdi brought the 1977 Sierra as successor his sports car in the high-speed 375-series on the market. The Sierra should conceptually be a luxury sedan with superior technology and outer understatement and compete with vehicles such as the Mercedes S-Class or 7 Series from BMW. Actually took over Monteverdi the entire Sierra technically unchanged and could be conducted at front and rear, designed by Carrozzeria Fissore changes, which included modified wing, narrow bumpers, headlights and tail lights of the Fiat 125 from the Renault 12. The conversions were carried out in Italy or in Switzerland; individual conversions (to about 20 cars) took the body shop before Wenger in Basel. The production numbers of the Sierra are unknown; it is however, doubtful whether they reached a total of three digit regions. In two specimens was then a convertible (based on the Aspen coupe) and a single copy of a luxury station wagon, which was based on the Aspen Station Wagon and taillights wore the Peugeot 504.
