Lada Niva – off-road vehicle produced in Togliatti first in the Soviet Union and now in Russia by AvtoVAZ Lada brand.

Lada Niva (2121) is considered to be the first car weighing not based directly on the license FIAT. While the three-door body and transfer system 4-wheel drive was created by engineers WAZ plants, many components were carried over from previous models of Lada based on licensing technologies FIAT. Production started in 1977 and continues to this day. The only changes included powertrains tailgate and interior finish. Initially, the car is equipped with a carburettor engine with a capacity of 1,600cc and a maximum power of 54 kW (72hp) known from the model in 2107 and a 4 – or 5-speed manual. The car was characterized by a permanent four-wheel drive transmitted through a central differential having the ability to lock on front and rear axle. These cars could reach speeds of 130km/h (90km/h in), combustion is maintained at 8.25 l gasoline per 100km. The permissible trailer weight is set at 860kg.

In 1993 the model underwent facelift. Modernized the rear part of the body. It also introduces a new power unit with a capacity of 1700cc and single fuel injection controlled by a computer Bosch well known production car GM. In some markets also offered a Peugeot diesel engine with a capacity of 1900 cm ³ and a few other smaller diesel engines mounted on the individual order (see model specification 21215).

Since 2006, this model is manufactured under the name Lada 4×4. This change occurred because General Motors (Chevrolet Niva Co) became the owner of the rights to the name "Niva".

In 1995, launched in 2121 extended version of the model indicated by 2131. Unlike the primary vehicle has a long five-body.

Small-lot production of this model even under the Lada brand was made in January 2001. Lack of sufficient funds enabled the transfer of customers in the first year, small lot production only 2,000 copies of this car. Further development of the model and the start of mass production was possible only after the uprising in June 2001 with the American company General Motors.
