Cadillac Cyclone

The Cadillac Cyclone was a concept car, the Cadillac division of General Motors produced in 1959. It never occurred to series production.

The Cyclone was one of the last vehicles of the legendary Harley Earl had designed, and served as a test object for futuristic design and advanced technology. Its chassis had a wheelbase of 2642 mm and was equipped with a front built V8 engine with 6391cc capacity, an automatic transmission on the rear axle and independent suspension all around. He was the only car where the exhaust ended up right in front of the front wheels. He also had an impact prevention system that worked with radar beams. The radar sensors were housed in the two "noses" at the front of the vehicle.

Of all the design details of the Cyclone, the glass dome over the cabin was the most striking. It was coated with silver in order to prevent the UV radiation and opened automatically by the electrically-actuated sliding. The glass dome could also be completely removed and transported on a special air bag in the trunk.

The design of the Cyclone was significantly affects from the Aerospace 1950s.
