Renault Caravelle
Renault car in Florida is a two door coupe or cabriolet made by the manufacturer Renault from 1958 and designed by Pietro Frua. Derived from the Dauphine, Florida possesses the rear engine and underbody.
La Caravelle is distinguished by its Florida high roof. The model wore two names depending on the country of sale.
The front with round flashing has at its center the crown already seen on the Dauphine. Engine 845 cm3 is the "special" Ventoux Dauphine Gordini. The gearbox has three reports (optional 4). The brake drums are to the front and rear, the wheels and the web to full power is 6 volts.
The North American market is particularly concerned, Florida is exported there with some modifications as the "Caravelle" for the sensibilities of the other States of the Union.
From 1962 until 1963, the Florida offers big changes: new 956 cm3 engine to five levels of 48hp (fitted a few months later on the Renault 8, the famous engine better known as Sierra the "Cleon-Cast" which will be manufactured at Renault Cleon plant for 50 years), four disc brakes (a first for a French car), box three fully synchronized gears, electricity 12 volts, closing the side vents and appearance of the hood popped rear since the radiator is placed behind the engine now.
If the convertible retains the optional hard top Florida cut, which takes the name Caravelle, presents a new design of the pavilion to accommodate four people.
Caravelle 1100 is distinguished by the Caravelle inscription on the front. The dashboard receives a packing imitation, the rear of the top bezel is wider and new colors appear. The hard top now shows a drawing of the Caravelle cut of the previous series.
Engine 1108cc 55hp coming from the patrol car, Solex carburettor with automatic choke, box four fully synchronized reports and expansion tank brass located in the right rear fender.
From the models 1966, 57.5hp engine passes through a dual Weber carburetor body. The dashboard includes round dials with a tachometer. The expansion vessel is glass side of the radiator. On the back cover, the symbol disappears in 1100 in favor of a Renault monogram. For 1967, Renault logo on the front mask and front indicators rectangular.
