Maserati 420
Maserati 420M – race car built by Maserati in 1958.
Built by order of Eldorado model 420M is the first Italian race car sponsored by non-automotive. This vehicle has been built to race 500 miles Monza in 1958. Its based on a spatial grid body was inspired by the Maserati 250F, while the front suspension was a copy of that used in the Maserati 450S sports. Located on the left side of the body krótkoskokowy engine with a capacity of 4190cc and architecture V8 achieved a maximum power of 410hp at 8000 rpm. The maximum speed of the car was 350km/h
The car was driven by Stirling Moss in the race 500 miles Monza and wrote well in the first two rounds. However, in the third round, on lap 40 had problems with control vehicle and Moss at a speed of 260km/h fell out of the track. Briton did not address any injury and was classified in seventh place. Model 420M also took part in the Indianapolis 500 race in 1959, but due to problems with the fuel system Ralph Liguori did not qualify for the race.
