Honda U3-X
The Honda U3-X is a self-balancing to transport a person electric unicycle. It is a concept, One-Off or only vehicle, of which only a sample unit was manufactured and is not scheduled for mass production.
Honda developed the U3-X with technology originally developed for ASIMO, the project of human biped robot. Honda claims that the "U" stands for Unicycle and Universal. It weighs 10kg and can reach a speed of 6km/h, similar to that of its rival Toyota Winglet speed. Was unveiled by CEO of Honda, the September 24, 2009 and announced that it would be shown at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. Time Magazine called it one of the 50 best inventions of 2009. In April 2010, Honda engineers did a brief demonstration of two U3-X devices in Times Square, New York. The Honda U3-X is a compact experimental device that fits comfortably between the rider’s legs, to provide free movement in all directions just like walking -. Forwards, backwards, side to side or diagonal uses the drive system or Honda Omni-Traction (HOT) to allow it to move in any lateral direction. The system uses multiple powered wheels of small diameter connected online to form a large diameter wheel. The rotation of the large diameter wheel U3-X moves forward and backward while rotation of the wheels of smaller diameter moves from side to side. The combination of these movements makes the U3-X to move diagonally.
It has not been announced yet if the vehicle is offered for sale to the consumer.
