Mayfair – exclusive shopping district is located in central London, in the municipality of the City of Westminster. District extends between the streets of Park Lane in the west, Oxford Street to the north, Regent Street to the east and the south of Piccadilly.
The district, outside shops, are located many embassies and luxury hotels, as well as Burlington House, a seat of, among others, Royal Academy of Arts, the Royal Astronomical Society, and the Society of London Linnéan Geological Society of London.
To the west of Mayfair’s Hyde Park, north district of Marylebone, Soho east and south of Green Park. Around the district deployed six subway station – Bond Street, Green Park, Hyde Park Corner, Marble Arch, Oxford Circus and Piccadilly Circus.
Archaeological research has shown that in Mayfair in Roman times was a crossroads, and this area could be settled before the foundation of Londinium. The origins of the modern Mayfair back to the mid-seventeenth century, and its name comes from taking place here in the past, the annual May Day (may) fair (fair).
Mayfair is the most expensive location in the standard British version of the board game Monopoly.
