Ferrari 550 Maranello
The Ferrari 550 Maranello replaces the 512M, the latest evolution of the Ferrari Testarossa. Designed by Pininfarina, it marks the return of the Ferrari V12 engine prior to its GT, abandoned after the Ferrari Daytona architecture. The two intermediate generations, the Berlinetta Boxer (365 GT4 BB 512 and BB), and the Testarossa (Testarossa, 512TR and 512M) were built around a flat 12-cylinder rear center position.
The Ferrari 550 Maranello was produced from 1996 to 2002. It has a very balanced weight distribution of 50/50 front/rear. The motor placed in the longitudinal forward position, that is a modified version of the 456; a 5.5 L V12 that develops 485 hp. The model has a change in the designation 575M (575 because the engine is revised upwards from 5.5 liters to 5.75 liters and M for "modificata" term already taken by its predecessor 456M).
Body Ferrari Maranello was available in several versions; cut (550 and 575M Maranello), tray (550 Barchetta) and a roadster with a roof that swings back was designed by the Italian coachbuilder Fioravanti, the Ferrari 575 Superamerica.
