• Chrysler Laser

The Chrysler Laser was one of the U.S. carmaker Chrysler produced from 1983 to 1986 hatchback sports coupe with front wheel drive.

The Chrysler Laser was based on the shortened platform of the Chrysler K-cars (Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant). He was part of the development project G24 and thus sister model of the Dodge Daytona. During this but until 1993 remained in production, the laser was already accounted for at the end of the model year 1986. A corresponding Plymouth model did not exist.

For the model year 1984 (2.2-liter four-cylinder) and XE appeared the Chrysler Laser with modern, in profile somewhat reminiscent to the Porsche 928, body in the versions base (2.2-liter turbo engine). From Daytona he differed visually only slightly, but there was for the laser not the Daytona Turbo Z corresponding variant, and the laser XE had an electronic dashboard.

1985, the performance of the turbo engine was increased to 148hp. Minor changes related to the underbody protection and two new paint colors. For an additional charge there was an XT package front and side skirts, wide tires, boost gauge and sports suspension included.

In model year 1986, the XT version was elevated to the status of an independent model. A new extra was the T-Roof with removable roof panels of stained glass. At the end of the model year, the laser was removed from the program. As the successor to the Plymouth Laser may apply, an offshoot of the Mitsubishi Eclipse, since all Chrysler dealers in the U.S. and the Plymouth brand represented.

From Chrysler Laser in three years created 147,500 copies.
