Chevrolet Mercury
The Chevrolet Standard Mercury, and Chevrolet Standard, was a mid-size car that was built in the model years from 1933 to 1936 by Chevrolet in the United States as the successor of the Confederate.
The real successor of the Confederate in the lower middle class did not appear until mid-model year 1933. Wheelbase was reduced by 3 "to 2.718 mm. The above-controlled six-cylinder in-line engine was now while 2,966 cm3, but who did, like its predecessor, 60hp (44 kW) at 3,000 min-1. Had the Confederate still a synchronized transmission, so this synchronization again accounted for the standard Mercury. The bodies were aerodynamically improved and have V-shaped inclined rearward radiator grilles. The vents on either side of the bonnet were narrower and not plated but coated, as well as the headlight, which had only chromium rings.
Because of the short model cycle only three different structures, two coupes with two or four seats and a 2-door saloon with 5 seats appeared. Only 35 845 units were built in the condensed model year.
Little changes occurred during the first full model year of the new series, which had been renamed from Standard Mercury in default. Among the three models of the previous year came in the middle of model year still a 4-door Phaeton and a 4-door sedan, each with five seats.
The vertical ventilation flaps had given three horizontal louvers on each side of the hood. 98 959 units were built from the DC series.
On the styling of the standard models in 1935 changed nothing, but there was a larger engine, which was taken over by the mid-range model master. In the standard the 3,388 cm3 displacement six-cylinder but made only 74hp (54 kW) at 3,200 min-1. Furthermore, five different structures were offered.
With 201 773 copies of this standard surpassed his predecessors clearly.
1936 also received the standard models, the all-steel car bodies from Fisher Body Co. The old-fashioned forms of construction Roadster and Phaeton disappeared.; it came 2-door convertible with two or four seats to do so. The front fenders of the new bodies were more rounded than in the previous year. In addition, there were now consistently steel disc wheels. As a special innovation, fully hydraulic brakes came on all four wheels, which replaced the mechanical cable brakes. The engine performance corresponds with 79hp (58 kW) at 3,200 min-1 of the larger middle class model.
408 417 copies of the FC series indicated that Chevrolet was with these changes on a successful path. In the following year the standard disappeared without replacement and the midrange model master took over the role of the entry-level model.
