Chevrolet Eagle
The Chevrolet Master Eagle, also known as Chevrolet Master, was a mid-size car that was built in the model years from 1933 to 1942 by Chevrolet in the United States as the successor of the Confederate. From 1937 he also replaced the simpler and smaller standard model, with the better-equipped variants Chevrolet Master Deluxe were called, the simpler Chevrolet Master 85
In December 1932, a larger successor to the Confederate appeared in the form of the Master Eagle Series CA. Its wheelbase was increased by 1 "to 2.794 mm. His above-controlled six-cylinder in-line engine had 3,179 cm3 and made 65hp (48 kW) at 2,800 min-1. As the Confederate had the Master Eagle a fully synchronized three-speed gearbox. The bodies were aerodynamically improved and had V-shaped, rearwardly inclined radiator grilles. The ventilation flaps on both sides of the hood were narrower and not chrome, but painted; the headlights were chrome-plated housing.
The cars were offered with eight different configurations of Fisher Body Co.. In addition to the classical forms, such as the 2-door roadster and the 4-door Phaeton, there were also more modern body shapes, such as a 2-door convertible, two different two-door coupes and sedans with three different 2 or 4 doors.
At first, the Master Eagle was the only offer of Chevrolet, middle of the model year but the smaller standard Mercury has given it to one side. From Master Eagle in single production year incurred 450 435 copies.
Stylistically, little had changed in the car, which now instead of Master Eagle were called only master or the manufacturer’s top models were. The wheelbase was increased by a further 2 "to 2.845 mm and the engine was enlarged to 3,389 cm3 and made 80hp (59 kW) at 3,300 min-1. The vertical ventilation flaps had given three horizontal louvers on each side of the hood. The Phaeton was no longer offered.
452 412 units were built by the DA series.
The Chevrolet Master Deluxe – as the master was now called – had the new "turret top" all-steel bodies from Fisher Body Co. roadster and convertible were no longer offered, but two different coupes and four saloons. New to the EA was also the front suspension: They hung on screw-sprung suspension arms after Dubonnet system instead of the previous rigid axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs. The old suspension was at the request still available; The models were called then ED series. The wheelbase was increased by another inch to 2.870 mm.
The following year, the car received a new, more rounded radiator grille and standard steel wheels. They were designated as series FA (with Dubonnet-axis front) and FD series called (with Fixed front axle). For the latter option, it was the last year, since then coil springs were fitted as standard. The engine power decreased by 1hp.
846 300 Master Deluxe emerged in two years.
1937, the previous standard was replaced as entry level by the master series GB. The cars had new, more rounded bodies with small side grills in front of the A-pillars, painted lamp pots and safety glass on all windows. Was taken over by the Standard also a convertible, which was offered alongside coupes and sedans. The wheelbase shrank by ¾ "to 2.851 mm. The engine was enlarged to 3,548 cm3 and made 85hp (62.5 kW) at 3,200 min-1.
The top model Master Deluxe Series GA had the same bodies (but without Cabriolet) and the same engine, but was better equipped.
1938 there was a new grille, which was more rounded and provided with horizontal chrome bars and a vertical partition in the middle. Otherwise remained in both models – now called HB and HA series – technically and stylistically everything the same.
1939 Master in Master 85 Series JB has been renamed. A longer hood and a revised grille again left the vehicle seem new. The headlights, which were previously mounted side of the grill, migrated to the front fenders. The convertible was eliminated, but a combination with 5 doors and 8 seats was offered. Also the Master Deluxe Series JA made with the changes. In addition to the cluster with 8 seats there was also a version with 5 Seats.
In three years, emerged 1,908,163 copies of the model series, Master, Master 85 and Master Deluxe.
In 1940, again on a bigger facelift. The grille consisted of a narrow, arched forward center section with horizontal chrome bars, which was provided at the sides with small, mid-cut wing sections. The headlights sank into the front fenders, which were also crowned with navigation lights. The hood was first designed as a rear-hinged hood Alligator. The trunk lid was considerably smoother.
From Master 85 KB series there were only four models: a coupé with two doors, two sedans with 2 or 4 doors and 5-door station wagon, but of which only 411 were built. The Master Deluxe Series KH was after the introduction of the new top model Special Deluxe the middle model and somewhat better equipped than the master 85 side two coupés, two saloons were offered with 2 or 4 doors.
333 417 85 Master and Master Deluxe were made this year.
1941 Master Deluxe Series AG the entry model of the brand. The wheelbase has increased by 3 "to 2.946 mm and the headlights were now fully integrated into the front fenders. The running boards were gone and replaced with stainless steel trim. The grille consisting of horizontal, curved forward chrome rods over almost the entire width of the vehicle. The Body Package (2 coupes, sedans 2) was equal to the previous year. The 3.55-liter engine delivered across 90 BHP (66 kW) bei 3,300 min-1.
1942 changed to styling and technology little, only the chrome bars in the grille were slightly heavier. The series name was BG.
In these two years 488 339 Master Deluxe emerged from the last series. After the war, the Style Master replaced the Master Deluxe.
