Vauxhall Velox
The Vauxhall Velox is a sedan in the upper middle class that brought Vauxhall in 1948 as a successor to the Vauxhall 20hp on the market.
The classic four-door sedan has a newly developed six-cylinder OHV engine with 2275cc and 54hp (39.7 kW). The front wheels have a torsion bar suspension; the driven rear wheels are suspended from semi-elliptic. The car reaches a top speed of 119km/h In the same body of the Vauxhall Wyvern smaller engine was offered. In Australia, there was next to the sedan also a touring car.
1951 got the Velox a completely new, self-supporting pontoon body. The engine of the previous model was indeed taken, but develops more power (55hp/40 kW). The torsion bar suspension front was replaced by coil springs, top speed increased to 129km/h Also in this body a Vauxhall Wyvern was available.
In the year after the publication of the first pontoon model this was a new engine with 2262cc and 64hp optional (47 kW) or 67.5hp (49.6 kW). The sister model Vauxhall Wyvern went through a similar transformation. In October 1954, the car was then given the first major facelift (EIPV) were made in which many visual changes. Most striking was the complete redesign of the front. However, the most important change was the introduction of a "deluxe" model with the name "Cresta". This version differed due to better equipment and two-tone paintwork from Velox. In October 1955 and in October 1956 was followed by further facelifts on the body. Technically, however, the Velox remained unchanged until its replacement by the PA series in October 1957.
In October 1957, the PA series is presented as Velox and Cresta with a completely new ultra-modern body with tail fins and panoramic windows. The engine of the previous model is slightly modified and is doing in this vehicle 82.5hp (60.7 kW). The sister model differs from Cresta Velox due to better equipment and two-tone paintwork. In October 1959, is its first facelift. The grille is substantially greater and the three-part Panoramic rear window gives way to a one-piece. Technically, the vehicle is changed until the next facelift in October 1960.
In October 1960 there is a further facelift in which the trim design and the rear lights are changed. As part of this change and a new engine is introduced: It has 2651cc capacity and provides 94.6 nbsp;hp (69.5 kW). To reach the Velox 150km/h At the same time alongside the five-door sedan and a station wagon is offered. Also, the Cresta makes with this conversion. The model is built in this form until October 1962, then replaced by the new PB series.
In October 1962, a smoothed, far less original body is presented without tail fins for the two sister models Velox and Cresta which precipitates also slightly larger. In October 1964, the 1965 model is presented with a wider grille. At the same time a new engine with 3.3 liters of displacement and is optionally available, which makes the car one of the fastest sedans of its time. After three years of construction, the model is adjusted and the all-new PC series replaced. Thus the name of the Vauxhall Velox ends in models.
