Toyota Paseo
The Paseo is a coupe of the largest Japanese car manufacturer Toyota and was built from 1991 to 1999. There are two versions of the vehicle: The Paseo EL44 (1991-1995) and the Paseo EL54 (1996-1999). In common parlance, "L4" (EL44) or "L5" (EL54) is used.
In the years 1991 to 1995, the EL44 for the markets of USA, Canada, UK and Australia was prepared in the Takaoka plant in Toyota City. It was based on the platform of the Toyota Tercel, not as is often claimed the Toyota Starlet (Tercel is "L" platform eg EL42, Starlet "P" platform, for example, EP82). Few of these vehicles exist today in Germany, are estimated well below 100 units.
The Paseo EL44 was prepared in two different versions:
The EL44 Coupe is a 939kg heavy, front-wheel drive 2 +2 seater. He has two seats in front and two rear seats for people of up to 1.65 m height. The drag coefficient (Cd) of the coupe is 0.32.

Available as an option were the mica metallic paint, air conditioning, leather seats, heated seats and a Toyota audio system.
Two basic versions were sold on the German market: The Paseo Paseo Coupe and the Convertible. According to the Federal Motor Vehicle Office in Germany there were around 3991 licensed coupes and convertibles 799 (January 2011 ). In Germany both coupe and convertible in the type designation EL54 were expelled, both vehicle types have known from the EL44 engine with the identifier 5E-FE. However, the maximum engine power compared to the EL44 of 75 kW (101hp) to 66 kW was (90 PS) decreased, while the maximum torque of 124 Nm in return increased to 130 Nm.
A special feature of the EL54 Convertible is that each Paseo Convertible also initially made available as a coupe, transported to the United States the company American Sunroof Corporation and was converted only there for the convertible. Finally, the convertible thus produced was shipped back to be shipped from there to the customer after Japan.
A special edition of the EL54, the Paseo S was a sportier version of the standard Paseos. The features of this version were the 215 40R16 tires, a front spoiler of the company TTE, a TTE rear spoiler, alloy wheels 7.5 JJx16 "and a lowering by around 30 mm. In Austria, a sportier version of the Paseo was offered here were visual details changed the Paseos in cooperation with the company Alpina tuning.
For the Japanese market also the EL54 existed again as Toyota Cynos. It was offered in addition to the EL54 with the engine code 5E-FHE (Cynos Beta) as EL52 (Cynos alpha), in which the motor identification of 4E-FE (1331cc, 63 kW/85 PS) was installed. This engine was installed among other things, the Toyota Starlet and Toyota Corolla. The EL52 Cynos was offered as opposed to EL54 Cynos with three-speed automatic transmission.
In the USA, the engine of the EL54 was converted to a distributor-less ignition. This is not the case with German Paseos.
