Toyota Model F
The Toyota Townace is a derived from the Toyota LiteAce vans from Toyota. It has been produced since 1976 in Asia than the higher quality equipment, with other motors or purely as a minivan version of LiteAce with partially different body. Outside Asia, only the minivan versions were offered under different names.
The Toyota Townace I (body-code CR21) was used as 7/8-sitziger Wagon (minivan) and Truck (flatbed) and Van introduced in October 1976 (panel van and Kombi) in Japan. It was based on the Toyota LiteAce, with whom he had the same front and sliding doors and replaced the Toyota MiniAce. This was last bought almost exclusively in the minivan version of private clients, or the commercial versions outside of Asia. Therefore, the focus of development was on a therefore higher minivan version of LiteAce and the commercial versions corresponded to the front design and the dashboard LiteAce.
Was driven by the Townace 1.2L 3 KJ, 1.6 L 2T-J and 1.6 L 12T-U gasoline engine in mid-engine layout, which was located under the front seats, front wheel drive and 4-wheel circuit.
As of October 1978, the U13-T replaced with 1800 cm ³ the U12-T and the 4K-J with 1300 cm ³ the 3K-J in order to meet the stricter emission regulations can. A revision of the suspension system brought improved handling and stability. The van version of "Super Extra" was introduced, with radial tires and a manual sunroof in the center of the vehicle as well as a raised roof with 1990 mm.
In October 1979, minor changes to the front and body were made concerning the appropriate mitigation measures. The instrument panel has been redesigned and there was a new color. All this should provide more car comfort. The Super Extra became the "Super Custom".
In December 1980, major revisions were made due to the strong competition from the introduced in 1979 Datsun Vanette Coach and the start of sales in North America as the Toyota Van Wagon. Instead of round headlights of the van now had two rectangular headlights. In addition to the steering circuit, a 5-speed stick-shift transmission and a 3-speed automatic transmission was now an option. A new front suspension with stabilizer made for improved Driving stability. Power steering and electric mirrors were now available, as is air conditioning. The sunroof could now be operated electrically.
As of February 1982, the Canyon with "Sun & was Moon roof "(similar to GMC Vandura), bunk beds and electric curtains available.

In November 1982 saw the introduction of the Townace II, only as a van that was built on the platform of the Toyota Liteace II. However, he had a different body, interior and rear wheel drive. In contrast to the LiteAce combi/minibus rear window was positioned slightly higher. The Townace was now speak of the Van LiteAce series and was therefore now in Japan for Toyota MasterAce. Engines were now the 2TY-U with 1800 cm ³ and 3TY with 2000cc petrol engines with Four-speed column shifter. Optionally, there was now a four-speed automatic transmission for petrol engines. Available a diesel engine type 1C was the first time (1800 cm ³), who came from the Toyota Corolla, with standard five-speed manual transmission. After North America, he was expelled from now on as Toyota Van with petrol engines including automatic transmission as standard. After Europe, he was as Toyota Model F exported (in countries with left-hand traffic such as the United Kingdom as the Toyota Space Cruiser). However, there was only him in the major markets – in Austria, for example, there was not the model – and only with petrol engines with standard five-speed manual transmission. The variability in the passenger compartment was significantly improved and enhanced standard equipment. There were, for example, a dual air conditioning, two sunroofs, digital clock, radio, fog lights, a tachometer, central locking and electric Windows, and tinted if desired slices in the rear portion.

In January 1992, the introduction of the fourth generation was again higher than facilities of LiteAce. Only the van, now as MasterAce Surf differed externally through extensive panoramic glass panels in the roof, but was offered in exporting to Europe as LiteAce. The LiteAce was offered from 1992 in Europe only in smaller markets such as Austria, Switzerland, the Benelux countries and the Nordic countries.
Now it was no longer steering column transmission, power steering was now standard, anti-lock braking system available as an option. The engines were initially the same, but comes standard with a catalyst. The truck was still based on the predecessor.
In August 1993, the power of the turbodiesel 65 kW was increased (88 PS), and dual air conditioning was the MasterAce surf now standard on all models. In August 1995, the gasoline engines accounted for due to the stricter emission regulations, and it made little modernization. ABS was now standard equipment in MasterAce Surf.
1996, there were the well-equipped Special Edition Birthday Limited on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the concept luxury van.
In 1996 the 5th generation Townace. It was now back to a specially equipped version of the Toyota LiteAce. The van was now marketed as Townace Noah and again produced as a Daihatsu Delta Van and Wagon. Daihatsu was now also responsible for the production.
The model was now much smaller than its predecessor, as the main competitors in Japan, the Nissan Largo was now. Engines were now the 3S-FE-type gasoline engine with 96 kW (130hp) and the 3C/3C-T direct injection diesel engine with the same power. The engine was mounted vertically and drove through a propeller shaft to the rear wheels. Optional all-wheel drive was available once again. Standard had the Townace driver and front passenger airbags and power steering, the Townace Noah addition, ABS, electric windows, central locking with remote control and navigation system. In addition, there was again the popular in Japan steering wheel gearshift.
In January 1998, there were minor improvements and slight revision of the front Townace Noah/Delta and there was an increase in performance of diesel engines.
1999 also received the Townace a new front design. The LiteAce Truck which was still based on the 3rd generation received a major overhaul but was now no more than Townace Truck produced.
In November 2001, production of the Townace Noah and the Daihatsu Delta Van/Wagon in favor of the Toyota Noah has been set.
2003 was another minor facelift with different front end.

Since January 2008, the 6th generation is produced based means of badge engineering on the Daihatsu Gran Max and is also built by Daihatsu in Indonesia. As with most previous models, the Townace is only the most significant features of the identical LiteAce.
The drive acts, placed under the passenger seat, the Daihatsu engine "Astra". This is the type VE 1.5L DOHC with VVT-3BR-i-injection. Compared to its predecessor, there were initially only rear-wheel drive and like this from 2001 onwards, no more Van model is built. In addition to the 3-seater truck and van is still a 3 – or 6-seater station wagon available. Standard two sliding doors and optional high roof for combi/vans are available. The maximum payload is 750kg, 800kg in the van and at the Truck 1000kg. Thus, the dimensions are at the level of introduction of LiteAce I 1970. The Townace was originally indeed introduced as a special offer for residential customers of Toyota MiniAce because the MiniAce for commercial customers through to small dimensions and backward technology after the appearance of LiteAce had become uninteresting. With the Toyota Pyxis then a model was introduced with the Dimensions of MiniAce.
Since July 2010 all-wheel drive is also available as an option again.
