Volkswagen Type 3

Volkswagen executives have always tried to find a successor to the Beetle. Thus was born the Type 3 (called “VW1500 type 3” in France) in 1961. Completely new, this vehicle still has many similarities with the ladybug. (Engine at the rear, air cooled,…)

The first body is available Notchback is a two-door hatchback, the next year appear the Variant is a station wagon, hatchback, 2 doors still. In 1966, the coupe version is available under the name Fastback. The convertible will never be sold.

Later, with the development of the engine, it will be called “VW1600 type 3”. It will be produced until 1972.
