• Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is a car model of the middle class from Toyota. It replaced the Toyota Cressida, whose import into Europe but was stopped in the fall of 1985 and in the other export markets until the autumn of 1992.

The name Camry is the English pronunciation of the Japanese word "kan-muri" again, meaning "crown". Toyota took with this model the change from rear-to front-wheel drive in the middle class.

The first generation was also sold as a hatchback version (Liftback), from the second to the fourth generation was also a station wagon offered. In America, the Camry was the basis for the Lexus ES and in Japan as the basis for the Toyota Windom and the Toyota Vista. Holden built it as Holden Apollo. Since the spring of 2000 he also produced by the Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu Altis as.

In Germany this model was little demand in the U.S., it is, however, a success. After five model generations of import to Europe was discontinued due to the weak sales and proximity to the smaller Toyota Avensis and the Lexus GS in the summer of 2004.

In the Japanese Toyota Tsutsumi factory in the fall of 1980, the first ran as Toyota’s flagship designated Camry from the stack. The car was sold as the Toyota Celica Camry in Asia and had rear wheel drive.

It was based on the Toyota Corona and was a superior-equipped version of this model. As Toyota Vista he was offered from 1982 on the Toyota Vista dealer network.

In early 1983, the Toyota Camry then appeared as a distinctive model with transverse engine and front wheel drive.

He was from January 1983 produced as a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback as (Liftback) and offered in addition to the Toyota Cressida in Germany. The body shape was followed by the taste of the 1980s and can be described as rectangular or box-shaped.

Offered ³ was a four-cylinder engine with overhead camshaft (dual downdraft carburetor) and a displacement of 1832 cm. He made 66 kW (90hp). The vehicle was 4415 mm long, 1690 mm wide and 1395 mm high (Liftback 1370 mm) and weighed empty 1035 (sedan) or 1055kg (Liftback). Also GLi models were offered with a two-liter engine from the summer of 1984.

The second generation Camry led the factory internal names CV20, SV 21 and VZV 21 and came in the fall of 1986 to the market. Offered he was back as four-door notchback sedan, a hatchback variant (Liftback), it no longer existed. As a substitute for the first time a station wagon appeared in the program.

In Europe, the Camry replaced the since the autumn of 1985 there are no longer available Toyota Cressida, while it was offered in North America in parallel to this. The body shape was smoothed and rounded. The drag coefficient reached the size of 0.35. The sedan had had a length of 4500 mm, a width of 1712 mm and a height of 1365 mm, the combined dimensions of 4625 mm/1712 mm/1375 mm. The car was as GLi with Catalyst and 1984cc with a power output of 89 kW (121hp) – initially without a catalyst with 94 kW (128hp), XL Turbo Diesel with 1981cc and 62 kW (84hp) as well as V6 GXi Kat with 2490cc displacement and 118 kW (161hp).

In North America, this Camry also was very successful and provided the basis for the offered from late 1989 Lexus ES. Likewise, he was also the basis for the offer from the end of 1989 Holden Apollo.

In Germany, only about 3,000 vehicles of this model generation were sold, of which about 60 percent to the estate version. In the U.S., the Camry was the basis for the Lexus ES. In Austria, the 121-hp sedan was offered with all-wheel drive. In Switzerland, the combination was (or Sportwagon as he was known in Switzerland) available with all-wheel drive and a power of 117hp.

(Models 001/9, 002/0, 003/2, 004/4, 005/6 and 006/8 Limousine closed) and 469 (combi closed, the factory, the types 466 are versions 001/2, 002/4, 003/6) equipped with a regulated catalytic converter, but their initial registration have not been marked as such in the registration documents on the day when the key OTTO/gcat Schl.-Nr. 51 was not yet included in the list of drive types.
