• Dodge Ramcharger

The Dodge Ramcharger is a sport utility vehicle built by Dodge from 1973 to 1993 (and 1999-2001 in Mexico), and based on a wheelbase shortened version of the Dodge D Series/Ram chassis truck. There was a version of Plymouth, called Trailduster and offered from 1974 to 1981 was only one SUV Plymouth.

The Ramcharger was mainly as a full-time four-wheel drive vehicle, although a version of two-wheel drive was available from 1975. During development, it was known as the "Rhino". From 1973 to 1980 models have a removable hard top, but soft on top, installed bag was available. The first model year differs from the others in that its door pillars are attached to a ceiling detachable.

Like many vehicles, the Ramcharger was used in rallying, although its use was very limited. They had some success, as evidenced by achieving first place in Sno * Drift in 1975. In 1978 and 1979 hp 360 CID was beaten to 195 hp (145 kW). 1978 was the last year for the 440 CID, which by then only put out 215hp (160 kW).

Early Ramchargers are available with an optional dual scoop hood with Ram Air Hood, Tho Very few are believed to have been ordered in the same. They are very similar to a ‘Cuda Plymouth and Dodge Challenger "Shaker" Hood.

In 1999, a new Ramcharger was produced in Mexico based on a second generation Ram pickup and using parts of the Dodge Ram pickups and other Chrysler vehicles. Sold only in Mexico, where the previous generation Ramcharger had been quite successful, not offered in the U.S. Because of this and other issues, this generation did not enjoy the sale of the earlier generations of Ramchargers. Powered by the 5.9 and 5.2 (360 CID and 318 CID) V8 Magnum and is only offered in versions 2WD, which was discontinued in 2002. One of the most interesting features of this generation was a small folding seat in the cargo area, facing sideways, not a seat large, so It is uncomfortable for long trips. The rear hatch door was borrowed from 1996-2000 model Dodge Caravan. The Mexican market Ramcharger was probably not marketed in the U.S. by the market SUV was favoring 4 or 5-door SUV 2-door instead. In addition, DaimlerChrysler already had two midsize SUVs successfully (Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango).
