• Austin J4

The Morris J4 was a pickup truck, the 1960 BMC introduced. It was also sold by the sister company Austin as Austin J4. After the founding of the British Leyland Motor Corporation in 1968, it was renamed in BMC J4. The vehicle remained with two facelifts to 1974 in production.

In 1960, the idea of the van ³ with a petrol engine with 1622cc capacity and surcharge with a diesel engine of 1500cc. He had four drum brakes. The payload was 500/600kg. The engine was installed between the driver and passenger seat. Thus, the J4 was extremely loud, even by the standards of the 1960s. The maximum speed was 101km/h with acceleration from 0 to 80km/h in 20.2 seconds and a fuel consumption of 12.4 Liters per 100km.

From 1967, the vehicle received a four-speed gearbox with synchronization of the top three gears. The J4 was a familiar sight in the streets, especially the British Post Office put him in large numbers. The J4 initially sold very well due to its low cost, the sales success decreased especially in corporate fleets from 1965 after the release of the Ford Transit. The low payload and antiquated technology made it less interesting for companies. However, for small customers and in particular as a camper, he was more popular. Because of this and because of the financial problems of BLMC it was built until 1974.
