• Volvo V70/XC70

When Volvo V70 is a station wagon, the Volvo brand. Only the first generation was available as a sedan under the name Volvo S70. Furthermore, there is the Volvo XC70 SUV, a version of the station wagon with höhergelegtem chassis.

The Volvo 850 was such a success that it has been externally altered only at the end of 1996 under the name change and the model upgrade to V70 carefully. The angular radiator and the headlights were slightly rounded and adapted to the style of the C70. From 850, the V70 of the first generation also differ by the painted bumpers and door handles, newly designed aprons, chrome exhaust pipes, and white indicator lenses back. The cockpit was redesigned in a little less angular shape. Overall, there was more than 1800 changes, the model applied to the prior art. The motors were no significant changes.

The V70 XC was a four-wheel drive version, which was directed with rough rasterized grille & Remote and suspension of driver with off-road ambitions.

The V70 R was a particularly sporting variant. The R-models of this generation, there were front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and automatic transmission or manual transmission. It differs from the other V70 models by a slightly revised front bumper, blue dials, an exclusive interior with Alcantara upholstery and aluminum inserts. The engine of the V70 R is a 2.3-liter five-cylinder inline engine with high-pressure turbocharged and Intercooler and delivers 184 kW (250hp). In 1999, a revised again small series of R was established as a V70R AWD. This model is only available with all-wheel drive and a 5-speed automatic transmission. It is a 2.4-liter five-cylinder inline engine with high-pressure turbocharger and intercooler, which develops 195 kW (265hp). In Germany, only about 400 copies were sold of this model.

The rear of the sedan, which henceforth S70 was was over the 850 changed a lot, but the model was always in the shadow of the station wagon. The V70 was able to build on the success of the 850, even if it meant no great technological progress.

In early 2000 came the second generation of the V70 (P26) on the market. The siblings of the car are the slightly smaller sedan S60 and the larger S80.

This model was created before the Director of Ford Striking design detail were the "shoulders" that emerged as the S60 through a deep bead below the window. This is a link with design elements of Volvo-240/260-Baureihe who had all these "shoulder". The 140 series had this design element is already in the middle of the 1960s.

Available are only in-line five-cylinder petrol engine as a sucker or turbo diesel engines and a bivalent Benzin-/Erdgas-Version under the name of bi-fuel (used in a previous model for a bivalent Benzin-/Methanol-Antrieb). Engine outputs range from 93 kW (126hp) for the 2.4D up to 220 kW (300hp) in the R model. The V70 is a front wheel drive vehicle, but some engine versions with all-wheel drive (AWD) are available. The R model was only available with all-wheel drive.

The bi-fuel version was in the 2006 FIA EcoTest (performed by ADAC) together with the Toyota Prius named the most environmentally friendly car of the year.

A facelift in autumn 2004 brought only small changes. The front presents itself with an extended front grille and new trim levels (Kinetic, Momentum, Summum) show the outside depending on the version more paint and chrome. With the new high-grade leather (Sovereign) and the option to personalize the vehicle with the Volvo Inscription Program, Volvo is trying to meet the significantly increased expectations of its customers.

In addition to the aforementioned equipment lines is also an R-model of the V70 was available: the V70 R AWD. (R stands for refined, so refined, revised), in the tradition of the Volvo R models, 850T5-R, 850R, V70R gene. 1 The V70 R AWD this series has a revised front with only the "R" built-up front mask (modified front bumper for better cooling and aerodynamics), silver bi-xenon headlights, R-typical five-spoke wheels of the type Pegaus, (8 × 17 and 8 × 18 inches each with 235/45/17- or 235/40/18-Bereifung) with "R" emblem, a double-flow exhaust system with tapered tail pipes, Brembo 4-piston front calipers/back, with R logo, ventilated 330 mm front discs/rear, the active Four-C suspension with electronic dampers, DSTC, which determines the driving condition of the vehicle 500 times per second, with three settings, Comfort, Sport Advanced, and only with All-wheel drive. In the interior, the R shows with royal blue instruments with LED lighting, some with genuine leather coated fittings, three special available only in the R variant Leather and color variations, as well as special R-sport seats, sport steering wheel, and other R-specific details such as the shift gate. The 2.5-liter in-line five-cylinder delivers from the factory by means of the high-pressure turbocharger KKK 24, two intercoolers and variable input and exhaust valve timing (CVVT,) 220 kW (300hp). The "R" engine of the V70 R AWD graphite-coated pistons with modified piston rings, stronger forged connecting rods with "cracked caps", an optimized oil pan (baffle plates removed, splash bulkhead instead), and other changes, as well as an optimized cylinder head for better cooling in discharge and the spark plug area.

In the summer of 2007, the third generation V70 (P24) was presented, whose sedan Volvo S80 is being sold. This Volvo has the V70 to 11 cm stretched to 4.82 m and built further technical developments, such as a hill descent control, tailgate with the remote control automatically open, the so-called BLIS system, adaptive brake lights and a proximity warning.

The offer initially on a six-cylinder petrol engine with 3192cc displacement and 175 kW (238hp) and a 3.0-liter petrol engine with turbocharger 210 kW (285hp). The five-cylinder diesel engine was first with 120 kW (163hp) and 136 kW (185hp). In the fall of 2007, the four-cylinder diesel from the Ford-PSA cooperation with initially 100 kW (136hp) was nachgeschoben (Peugeot DW10). The large petrol engine is offered standard with a 6-speed automatic transmission, for the diesel there is the automatic transmission as an option – the series is self-igniting a six-speed manual transmission.

In contrast to the second generation of bivalent natural gas drive (bi-fuel) is no longer available because the sales figures – with the exception of the natural gas boom in Germany – not sufficiently developed. As a substitute, the FFV concept is introduced for petrol engines, which allows any admixture of bio-ethanol (E85).

In Sweden, the V70 2.5FT AFV is offered since 2009 and can be ordered directly from Volvo. It is a V70 with flexi-fuel engine and retrofitted Prins gas system. Retrofitting is done by the company AFV in the workshops of Volvo in Torslanda.

Since mid-2009, revised versions of the 5-cylinder diesel will be offered. The 120-kW version was replaced by a more fuel-efficient 129 kW, the torque has increased particularly strongly with 420 Nm (previously 340 Nm). The D5 with 136 kW has been replaced by a new version with register turbocharger and 151 kW. Optionally, the engine with a 6-speed automatic transmission is coupled, which comes as standard with the D5 AWD. Furthermore, there since the 2010 model year a fuel-efficient diesel version. The 1.6D has designated 80 kW and the name of the Volvo DRIVe with economical diesel versions.

The Volvo V70 has a boot volume of 575 liters with rear seats folded down, it increases to 1600 liters. The third generation was in the equipment lines Kinetic (standard version), Momentum (upscale variant) and Summum (luxury version) offered.

Mid-2013, the V70 has undergone a facelift. Here, the henceforth rounder grille horizontal chrome slats received four and a filigree chrome border. Similarly, the lower part of the front bumper has been redesigned so that the optical separation of the central air intake was removed from the outer and this unity is emphasized by two continuous horizontal chrome strips.

Furthermore, the design of the side mirrors was changed, which now feature LED turn signals. A characteristic of the stern are the chrome trim under the tail lights and under the Volvo logo. The rear lights retained their shape while in the lighting functions but were rearranged and appear more elegant.
