The Proton Exora is a van that has been brought out by Malaysian carmaker Proton on April 15, 2009. This completely new model stands on a new chassis. The Exora was developed by Proton itself completely and is the first minivan from Malaysia. Already on 23 January 2009 one could admire photos of undisguised Exora on the internet.

CPS 1.6

The chassis of the Proton Exora has MacPherson struts in front and torsion bars at the rear. The car is 4592 mm long, 1809 mm wide and 1691 mm high. The wheelbase is 2730 mm. It is driven by a CAMPRO CPS engine developing 125 HP (92 kW), and outputs a torque of 150 Nm. The top speed is 165km/h

The average petrol consumption was 7.2 l/100km. Match those of the transmission Waja and gene 2, but has the differential, in order to improve a shorter translation acceleration.

The Exora has a control module that can automatically activate different functions, eg Lock and unlock the doors, interior lights, headlights, brake lights, hazard warning lights and windshield wipers.

The Exora reached 4 of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP crash test after 32 Exoras in Applus + IDIADA grounds were crashed in Spain. In addition, the Exora also got 4 of 5 stars in the Malayan MyVAP checker. One of the reasons for the good results is the use of high tensile steel for the body frame, which ensures greater stability and better occupant protection in case of accidents. In addition, a side impact protection was incorporated.

Other safety features are ABS and EDB. Two airbags and seat belt tensioners are installed on the two front seats.

Proton announced a contest for finding a name for the new minivan, which was called Proton MPV Naming Contest. It ended on 30 September 2008. This was the second time (after the saga), the proton organized such a competition.

The result was announced on 17 February 2009. The name "Exora" had been selected from 251 763 proposals; Winner was Norsholihan bt Abdul Eanich. He got the first Exora, which rolled off the assembly lines.

A much-discussed rule of this contest was that the name was not allowed to come from the animal or vegetable kingdom, but the winning proposal Exora reminiscent of the flower Ixora. Proton subsequently clarified that the word Exora only the flower Ixora was similar, but no animal or plant names represented and therefore was admissible.
