• Nissan Hypermini

The Nissan Hyper Mini was a model of the Japanese car maker Nissan, which was presented at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1997 and went into series production.

Nissan got a lot of requests for serial production of the hyper Minis after the presentation of the Hyper Minis. In late 1998, were the first vehicles that came from the series production, delivered to the customers. The price of a copy was 4,015,000 yen. The customers came mainly from Japan. A few copies were also sold in Hong Kong and Singapore. A total of 220 copies were produced.

The Hyper Mini was with a 400 V traction battery (max. charge capacity: 90 Ah) equipped and offered a maximum of two people. Interestingly, made him, among other things yet modern design and rich interiors. For a concept vehicle that should remain the Hyper Mini, this is completely normal.

The lithium-ion batteries of the Hyper Mini are mounted under the floor panel and be inductively charged. The non-contact charging system with built-in coil generates a high frequency magnetic field. A portable charger can be carried, so that one can charge the car at each outlet. Nissan claimed that the Hyper Mini could do with a fiftieth of the cost of a gasoline-powered vehicle.

The Hyper Mini is equipped with a navigation, information and communication system that automatically returns the driver with a button to rental companies or inform the nearest center via error. In addition, a warning device in the car is built, which indicates the driver of the Hyper Mini attention when the battery has reached a low charging rate and the nearest charging station is to be approached.

In Japan, the Hyper Mini in the cities of Kyoto (138 pieces), Yokohama (20), Ebina (15 pieces) and Tokyo was (20) operated tentatively, where Nissan was involved in three Japanese car-sharing programs. The cars were used by city officials and private citizens, 120 models have been sold by Nissan. Likewise, there have been attempts in Davis, California, USA in the University of California (15 pieces on 7 November 2001) and by the City Council of Pasadena, in California (11 pieces).

The 11 Hypermini the city of Pasadena were withdrawn in August 2006 by Nissan after the leases had expired. Nissan claimed that the Hyper Mini would no longer produced and no more service could be made for it. However, circulating conjectures that the lobby of the oil industry stops the production of electric cars, as well as the production of other electric car models (eg EV1 by General Motors or RAV4-EV Toyota) was soon reinstated.

Occasionally found in Japan nor a copy of the Hyper Mini in public sale.
