The Sonata is a family car designed by the South Korean manufacturer Hyundai. It was launched for the first time in 1985 and has undergone six generations: 1985-1987, 1988-1993, 1993-1998, 1998-2004, 2004-2009, 2009 -…

This first generation drift closely Hyundai Stellar, itself being a/FORD Taunus Cortina Mk V (79′-82 ‘) rebodied (Giugiaro). There is therefore a motorized propulsion Mitsubishi (4 cylinders 1.6, 1.8 and 2 liters). Not imported into France.

Presented in late 1987, the Sonata Y2 based on a platform of Mitsubishi Galant 5th generation. Depending on the year and market destinations, it is equipped with four-cylinder (1.8 liter, 2 liter and 2.4-liter carburettor or injection) or V6 (3 liters). She is the first to be exported to the USA.

Marketing in France began in September 1992 with a single 2-liter engine 16V 131hp. Barely a year later, it is replaced by a new version. From July to September 1993, a special 25th Anniversary series was proposed.

This 3rd generation appeared in October 1993 with a 2-liter 8-valve 105hp 5-speed, 2 liter 16 valve 139hp combined with a manual transmission (5-speed) and automatic (4 reports). Available in one finish, GLS, the equipment is completed 16V air conditioning, driver’s airbag and ABS. Leather, metallic paint and air conditioning (on GLS 8V) are available against supplement. A special edition is available from January 1995 to September 1996. This equipment is optional on the GLS 16V end of 1995.

In September 1996, the Sonata undergoes a facelift mid-career (front and back) while the engines have their lowered power: – 10hp on the 8V (95hp) and – 14hp on 16V (125hp). The range is then organized around the GLS (8V), GLS Comfort (16V, dual airbag + ABS) and GLS Luxury (ditto GLS Comfort + alloy wheels, cruise control, leather steering wheel and fog lamps). Only the latter can receive automatic. After a decline the selling price of each version in April 1997, this generation of Sonata gives way to its successor in October 1998.

It was first presented at the Turin Motor Show in April 1998 and at the Paris Salon in September. Marketing works on the French market in October. It exists with a 2-liter 16-valve 136hp and three finishes (GL, GLS and GLS Comfort Luxe). GL and GLS Luxury disappear in June and December 1999. GLS Comfort remains with only options for leather upholstery, metallic paint and automatic transmission.

In the summer of 2001, the Sonata undergoes a facelift giving it a statutory speed. Only the automatic transmission is available, always with the 2-liter 16-valve, 131hp now. Alloy wheels go from 15 to 16 inches in diameter from the GLS GLS Comfort Deluxe in April 2002, the equipment is enriched including automatic climate control and leather upholstery. From January 2003, it is called Deluxe Pack only option for GPS. Production ceased in early 2004 but remains in the French catalog until September.

Sonata EF has suffered from a lack of clear image, but especially the unavailability of a diesel engine is very popular in France for this type of mid-range sedan, whose market share is steadily declining in favor of Type MPV, SUV and crossover vehicles.

First launched in Korea in August 2004, the Sonata NF is marketed in France from April 2005 with a single finish-Luxe Pack-a-four-cylinder petrol engine of 2.4 liters and 161hp, and two transmissions (5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic). Metallic paint, with or without GPS Bluetooth and the additional 24 month warranty are extra. To better penetrate the market, a diesel variant is available from March 2006 (manual or automatic). The engine is a 2.0 CRDi 140hp, developed by Detroit Diesel. The petrol engine no longer justified, it is deleted in October. The Sonata is available in two finishes, Comfort Pack and Luxury Pack. From February 2009 the only remaining Comfort Pack while, and only manual in October. In October 2007, the Sonata MS Design is marketed. The finish matches the old Luxe Pack which adds a body kit from the Austrian MS Prop Design: it consists of skirts front/rear, two side skirts and a mesh grille, plus alloy wheels in specific drawing. Sonata NF ended his career in January 2011.

A facelift was performed on the vehicle at the end of 2007. Headlights have grown, the interior has been improved. The "Sonata Transform" is sold under the name Sonata 2009 in the United States.

This sixth-generation Sonata is named i45 in Europe. It is first output break on the French market, then sedan.
