• Fiat 1100 R

Fiat 1100-103 was presented by the Italian manufacturer Fiat at Geneva in March 1953.

Replacing the previous series after the ancient Fiat 508 Balilla, which was a huge success worldwide and which Fiat took several modernized versions over time, the old Fiat 1100 resumed the chassis of the 508C in 1937.

For the new 1100 Fiat opted for a complete overhaul of the project abandoning the classic frame and then adopted a self bodywork.

The car was named after her Fiat 1100-103 code but kept its predecessor the 1089cc engine developing 36hp but the legendary reliability and flexibility had conquered all technicians. (This same engine fitted to many Simca Aronde including all series and P60). The body of the first original version was very round in two volumes with a chest very slightly marked. That same year, Fiat presented the Paris Salon version 103 TV (Turismo Veloce) which was equipped with an engine increased to 50hp.

With the second series appeared in 1956, the Fiat 1100-103 E was completely rebuilt and the new version took more angular speeds and the trunk became a real trunk lid. Engines were brought to 40hp sedan and familiare and 53hp for the TV version, a convertible, known as "trasformabile" completed the range.

The third series began in 1957 with the Fiat 1100 D enjoyed retouching body including the opening of the front doors against the wind. This model received a new 1221cc engine developing 50hp. This is the same engine that was used on the Autobianchi Primula first front wheel of the Fiat group.

In 1959, Fiat launched the 1100-103H, luxurious version of the Fiat 1100-103 that came to occupy the niche in the Fiat 1200 GranLuce.

1960 1100-103D and H versions were replaced by the Fiat 1100-103 Export and Special.

At the Turin Motor Show in April 1962, these versions were replaced by the Fiat 1100D which was equipped 1221cc engine of the Fiat 1200.

The latest version introduced in February 1966, the Fiat 1100R (R for renewed), the most taut lines gave it a very modern look that was consistent with the other models in the already wide range Fiat, Fiat 124 and Fiat. 125 The engine displacement of fetish took over the original model: 1089 cm3. Fiat 1100 R remained the catalog until 1969, when it was replaced by the revolutionary Fiat 128.

The Fiat 1100 was one of many Fiat cars to be built in many countries outside of Italy where it was manufactured more than 1,437,100 copies; must be added manufacturing abroad:

Then, in 1960, Fiat gave to Prime a license and one of its two production lines of the Fiat 1100-103 1st series 1953, capable of producing 40,000 models per year. In 1967, Fiat gave again an assembly line for Fiat 1100-103 D FIRST who continue to manufacture renaming Padmini, popular Indian car taxis until 2000. Overall this will be more than 1,500 1100 Fiat 000 that were manufactured in India for the local market.

The overall production of the Fiat range 1100-103 exceeded 3.8 million copies worldwide.
