Chevrolet Venture

The Chevrolet Venture was a van, the General Motors produced from 1996 to 2005. It replaced the Chevrolet Lumina APV. Identical styled vans were sold in Germany as the Opel Sintra, and in the UK as Vauxhall corresponding model.

Opel was also involved in the construction of the van. Until 2005, Chevrolet Europe sold a few models, mostly from U.S. production with adjustments to the European car standards, the Chevrolet Trans Sport – a Chevrolet Venture with the front end of the Pontiac Trans Sport. During the year 2005, the Venture and Astro were replaced by the Uplander. The Venture and the other Chevrolet vans were manufactured in Doraville (Georgia).

The venture was launched in late 1996 as a 1997 model as the successor to the radically styled Lumina APV on the market. He was in the U.S. as Oldsmobile Silhouette and Pontiac Trans Sport – 1999 renamed Pontiac Montana – sold. The Venture and its sister models were powered by a 3.4-liter V6 engine with 180hp (132 kW).

As of 2000, the slightly revised engine generated 185hp (136 kW). All venture had a four-speed automatic. A Warner Brothers special edition of 2000 had leather seats, Warner Brothers signs, where a Bugs Bunny character leans against the Warner Brothers logo, and a DVD-Audio system, then a novelty.

In 2001, the styling was revised, and in 2002 a four-wheel version was available. Articles in car magazines presented the model just as lukewarm as the sales figures then developed. Critics complained especially the narrow interior, which had to be attributed to the adaptation to European proportions. The vans were available with short or long wheelbase, four-wheel drive as well as the Chrysler vans. The seats in the third row could be flat Around, but were a step in the floor, not like the vans from Honda and Mazda, where the seats disappeared in a recess provided in the floor of the trunk.

The venture was mid-2005, replaced by the Chevrolet Uplander, a revised version with an extended front car. The Uplander received an increased front to improve the crash behavior, which gave the car an SUV-like appearance. This model was available in two wheelbase variants. In model year 2005, the venture was only offered with long wheelbase.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 1997 Chevrolet Venture in his assessment four out of five stars in the frontal crash test. Follow-up tests in other years most also led to reviews of four stars, others three or five stars. The NHTSA does not conduct offset crash tests.
